CAT started in 1904 , when a budding entrepreneur of tractor machinery by the name of Benjamin Holt built a track type tractor which was tested in California. The tractor had tracks which were said to be very much like a caterpillar. By 1910 Holt registered Caterpillar as a trademark and in 1925 his manufacturing company along with CL Best Tractor Company merged to form Caterpillar.
