Well 2014 is here, and one thing people consider is a new job, or change in career, but when attending that all important interview, what workwear women should consider to follow the accepted dress code can be a minefield.

After all we all want to make a good impression when entering the interview environment, as some recent research has suggested that the first two minutes of an interview can make all the difference to whether you are successful or not, and image plays a big part in this. Even if the job’s working environment is more relaxed or is uniform based it is important to portray a professional image at the interview and dress accordingly. Unless you are going for a pole dancing position it is advisable that you are best avoiding low cut necklines, short skirts, transparent materials and six inch stiletto heels in your outfit.

Here are a few pointers for a job based in an office environment; you should think about opting for a suit in a neutral colour, possibly navy, black or in a darker grey. If you opt for a skirt rather than trousers make sure than it is long enough, but is still comfortable so that you sit down easily. For the top underneath the suit make sure it isn’t too revealing and that it goes with the suit. This is equally valid if simply going for a top and trousers, or top and skirt. The overall look is important, as you want to be seen as smart, but you need to be comfortable, as sweat patches under the arms if you are too warm isn’t a good look for anyone, especially at an interview. We all know how stressful they can be anyway. And you want to be able to give the best image of yourself.

And remember to check that your shoes have been cleaned and polished, and if they are new that they fit properly.

Make sure that you have your outfit ready the day before your interview so that you have any last minute surprises. Preparation is probably the most important thing for any interview, so whatever workwear women may need then check out Brookes the home of workwear and you will be dressed for success without burning your whole budget.
