We all feel a bit down after a break from work, whether it’s the two week holiday in the sun, or that short break staycation. That first morning when the alarm goes off and you know you can’t hit the snooze button is never easy, even if you enjoy your job, so here are a couple of tips to get back into gear.

Based in an office and not looking forward to that pile of paperwork, with emails too, nothing will get you stressed as quick. The first thing to do is get back in control of the work itself. Prioritise what needs to do done first and always check with colleagues because some of it has probably already been solved, so that delete button can be very important.

After enjoying those holiday lie-ins and eating what you want, whether on the beach or at that nice restaurant you found, it’s no wonder that being back in the day-to-day habit can be a little disheartening, but the best way of overcoming this is to get back into your normal routine as soon as you can. If at all possible get a couple of early nights in before you go back to work to offset that alarm clock, eat your meals at your normal time and it should make that sudden transition back to work a little easier.

Mangers might not appreciate this one, but a quick gossip and catch-up while brewing up is a great way to remind you how much you do actually enjoy your job. Finding out what has happened while you have been away, especially the fun things, can help put you back on track.

Another one is always remember to get yourself a little treat during your first couple of days back, whether it’s a favourite magazine, or your favourite cake from that little shop outside work. Give yourself something to aim for at the end of that first week.

So whatever your work situation, a lot of these can be used to varying degrees, so get those workwear trousers back out of the wardrobe and get to it.
