We all have to watch every penny these days and we all want things to last that little bit longer, and it’s no different when you look at embroidered workwear. So here are a few things to remember because having garments maintain there “new look” is important because whichever garment you have utilized in your workwear apparel, it is acting as a walking advertisement for the firm or business.

The most important rule to follow when maintaining clothing is of course “common sense”, something that can be in very short supply depending on your location and the people around you. The washing and ironing instructions on the original garment should be followed as they are there for a reason. For more durable fabrics then the washing machine is always going to be your best option, but for more delicate fabrics than you may be better hand washing.

If you do acquire stains on your garment near to the embroidery then it is normally safer to avoid applying bleach based removal solutions directly on the embroidery as this may result in the embroidery fading. Instead put the solution into water and gently rub this diluted solution onto the staining. Do not leave this on for long otherwise it may still cause the colours to fade. Immediately wash the garment, allowing for a through rinsing.

One tip in more sunnier areas is to make sure that when the clothing is dried outside, to hang it out inside out so reducing the time the embroidery is in direct sunlight, as excessive exposure will cause the colours to fade over time. Obviously this isn’t something we have to remember that often in the UK.

When garments are ironed this should be done gently and lightly on any embroidery to avoid burning or scorching the thread.

Follow these tips and using your common sense you should get the full life out of any embroidered workwear, but remember this doesn’t allow for everyday wear and tear and the occasional accident.
