It can be a difficult decision to decide what to wear at the best of times, but what items of workwear women have to consider when going for an interview.

We all like to make a good first impression and in an interview situation this is vitally important; some research considers the first two minutes of an interview can make all the difference to your success. So it’s important to dress professionally when attending an interview, even if you know that the working environment has a more relaxed attitude or is uniform based. You still have to make that initial good impression. Unless you are trying out for a pole dancing job it is probably best to avoid low necklines, short skirts, transparent materials and high heels.

For an office-based job then opt for suit in a neutral colour, possibly a navy, black, or darker grey. If you opt for a skirt then make sure it is long enough so that you can sit comfortably. When choosing a top to wear under the suit make sure it isn’t too revealing and that it goes with the suit. The same applies is simply going for a top and trousers, or top and skirt. The overall look is important, smart but comfortable is ideal, sweat patches under the arms if you are too warm isn’t a good look for anyone at an interview.

Always check that shoes have been cleaned and polished, and fit properly.

Even though you need to project a professional image, you need to feel comfortable in everything otherwise you won’t be able to give the best image of yourself otherwise.

The workwear women choose for an interview is vital, as it is for any interviewee, so take your time and don’t leave any decisions on your outfit until the last minute, preparation is probably the most important element.
