The developer Peel Group has announced that it submitted plans to Salford City Council for a new hotel and office development within MediaCityUK in Manchester. The proposed building would be ten stories high and would be a combination of office and studio space (taking up six floors) plus a hotel (on the remaining four floors) with one hundred and twelve bedrooms. The proposed spend is just £20 million.

MediaCityUK is home to the BBC, ITV, Coronation Street and the University of Salford, as well as more than two hundred smaller media and tech companies and is now considered to be the second largest creative and digital site in Europe and with the leisure and retail opportunities in the same area is seen as a ‘go-to’ destination. Therefore the addition of a new hotel will help both those doing business or visiting and should be seen as another asset to the area as a whole.

If planning approval is given then it is hoped that building would get underway before the end of this year, with completion set for the end of 2015.
