You have your exam results, applications have been sent and you have your first job interview, but what is acceptable as ladies workwear in the modern world? Well it can be a difficult decision for some ladies what to wear at the best of times, I know you always want to look your best, but how long do you need sometimes, but joking asdide what needs to be considered for an interview.

The old adage goes that you only get one chance to make a good first impression and nowhere is this truer than at an interview. Some research has suggested that the initial two to three minutes can make all the difference as to whether you are successful or not. Therefore it is vital you dress professionally at an interview, even if you are aware that the working environment is a little more casual in its day to day approach to dress codes. You still have to be sure that you make that initial good impression. Unless you are applying for a specific job in the arts or entertainment spheres (dancing/acting etc) then avoid low necklines, short skirts, transparent materials, high heels and anything that shows your midriff, however glorious toned.

For an office-based job then opt for suit in a neutral colour, possibly a navy, black, or darker grey. If you opt for a skirt then make sure it is long enough so that you can sit comfortably. When choosing a top to wear under the suit make sure it isn’t too revealing and that it goes with the suit. The same applies is simply going for a top and trousers, or top and skirt. The overall look is important, smart but comfortable is ideal, sweat patches under the arms if you are too warm isn’t a good look for anyone at an interview.

Always check that shoes have been cleaned and polished, and fit properly.

Even though you need to project a professional image, you need to feel comfortable in everything otherwise you won’t be able to give the best image of yourself otherwise.

What items are chosen for an interview is vital, as it is for any interviewee, so take your time and don’t leave any decisions on your outfit until the last minute; preparation is probably the most important element. Have your outfit ready the day before, to avoid any last minute dramas and have the complete ladies workwear interview outfit ready to go.
